Restoring Truth Ministries, LLC (RTM) is a Catholic apostolate explaining the assault on truth that began in the domain of philosophy and then spread to the domains of theology and history during the so-called Enlightenment. Through Charles Lyell and Charles Darwin, natural science then succumbed to the false view of reality referred to as the “Cartesian-Darwinian Narrative” (the Narrative), as did the domain of history.

RTM is dedicated to tracing the development of the Narrative and making known the harmful errors emanating from this false view of reality. These errors led to the culture of death and the breakdown of society now seen in the Western world. These errors will not be eradicated until the underlying view of reality is widely understood to be false.  As Pope Pius XII stated in Humani Generis (par. 9), “diseases are not properly treated unless they are rightly diagnosed.”

Four of our books expose the falsehoods of the Cartesian-Darwinian Narrative in the domains of philosophy, theology, history, and natural science and explain that Christianity is the one worldview that withstands scrutiny.  These books are:

Repairing the Breach: Explaining the Systematic Deception Behind the War of Worldviews and How Christendom can Turn the Tide (2008)

The Fall of Darwin’s Last Icon and the Failure of the Cartesian-Darwinian Narrative (2020)

Human Evolution: The Astonishing Record (2023)

The Realm of Curiosity: A Novel about Truth, Worldviews, and God’s Loving Pursuit (2023)

Our other two books explain the Catholic teaching on Scriptural Inerrancy and evaluate evolutionary claims in the light of Catholic teachings and Thomistic philosophy.  These books are:

A Catholic Assessment of Evolution Theory: Weighing the Scientific Evidence in Light of Thomistic Principles and Church Teachings on Origins (2011)

And:

The Catholic Teaching on Scriptural Inerrancy (2014)

Listed below are some questions and answers that provide more detail about our work and mission.

What are the strategic battlefields in the War of Worldviews?2020-01-02T20:38:19+00:00

The three key battlefields are education (including seminaries), the government (especially the judiciary), and the media. The most important of these is education.

Since 1900, the field of education has been dominated by theorists such as John Dewey, commonly considered to be the “Father of American Education” and a key figure in the emergence of the philosophy of modern humanism. Dewey viewed children as mere animals to be manipulated and trained to meet the needs of an evolving society, and his methods set the stage for the failure in American education plus the indoctrination of innocent children into the humanistic worldview.

Dewey’s views continue to dominate public schools as humanist educational theorists never relinquished control and are able to execute their strategies today through the like-minded NEA leadership (though many teachers are well meaning and unaware of the agenda). The aim, now largely achieved, continues to be the use of the classroom to lead children to the rejection of their Christian heritage and to the pursuit of a hedonistic lifestyle through harmless sounding programs such as “values clarification” “outcome based education,” and “safe sex” instruction.

Unfortunately, such programs have had devastating spiritual, emotional, and physical consequences on those students who fall victim to the lies being taught. The moral collapse in America is directly related to this usurpation of parental rights in education and the misinformation taught in our schools.

When the assault in education is combined with the glorification of hedonism (pleasure-seeking) in television and the media, plus decisions from judicial activists who are hostile to Christianity,  it is not surprising that Christianity is losing the war even though it is the only worldview consistent with truth and provides satisfactory answers to the great questions of life.

What is a worldview and what ideologies are at war?2020-01-04T20:08:55+00:00

Every reasoning person holds a worldview, which is simply his or her ultimate view of reality. A worldview provides answers to basic questions such as: “Where did I come from?” “Why am I here?” “Am I morally accountable?” and “What happens when I die?” All such questions can be reduced to “Who is God?” and “Who is man?”

The primary alternatives to Christianity are secular humanism, the New Age Movement, unorthodox theology (usually in the form of neo-modernism), and postmodernism. Adherents to non-Christian worldviews often object to the notion of moral absolutes, which explains why they are increasingly antagonistic towards Christians and work to eliminate Christian influence.  Importantly, all four of these worldviews listed rely upon Darwinism for their intellectual justification. Since 1900, these worldviews have morphed into a mega-philosophy called the “Cartesian-Darwinian Narrative”. A summary statement of the Narrative is as follows:

“If there is a God, He does not intervene in the affairs of men; no miracles are allowed in the Cartesian-Darwinian world.”

What are the weapons in the war of worldviews and why is Christendom losing?2020-01-04T20:09:41+00:00

The weapons of this war consist of the assault on truth in all domains of learning. While the Scholasticism of the Middle Ages correctly established that authentic truth in philosophy, science, history, and theology point to the truth of Christianity (hence the statement “truth cannot contradict truth”), falsehood in these four domains is taught as truth in high school, college and even in many seminary classrooms, and has mistakenly convinced millions of trusting students that the Christian worldview is not consistent with the evidence and sound reasoning.

The most influential departure from truth has been Darwinian science because the view of man as merely an evolved animal permeates every aspect of education. While many sincere Christians hold that evolution is not opposed to the faith (as true science cannot contradict truth about God and His creation), this position ignores three important considerations:

  1. Darwinian science is not supported by the  scientific evidence (those who believe it is rely upon inaccurate information they were taught in high school or college and have not undergone a serious study of the scientific literature  themselves),
  2. The teaching of Darwinism in schools inappropriately ventures into the philosophical realm. That is, students are commonly taught that evolution is a purposeless process and that Darwinism has exposed belief in a Creator as a superstition or myth, and
  3. Sound Catholic principles of Scriptural interpretation lead to the overwhelming rejection of claims for human evolution, as does an evaluation of authoritative Magisterial teachings and the writings of the Church Fathers. Those who dismiss these writings because the Fathers lived in “pre-scientific” times ignore the fact that the Fathers did know of evolutionary concepts and strongly opposed them. Moreover, origins is correctly seen as belonging to the domain of historical theology and not natural science, and this means that teachings of the Magisterium and Church Fathers are of great importance.

While truth cannot contradict truth, falsehood in any domain can appear to conflict with truths of the faith and false Darwinian science, presented as truth to prop up false philosophies, has led millions into a lapse of faith and the embrace of false worldviews. Similar error in the domains of philosophy, theology, and history has led multitudes away from the one, true worldview and into false worldviews that are built upon false claims and deception.

Why should I care?2020-01-04T20:10:29+00:00

Christians should realize that not only are souls at risk in this struggle, but there are enormous practical stakes as well. The only way to win the debate over moral issues such as abortion, for example, is to challenge the belief of most citizens that there are no moral absolutes and that abortion does not take the life of an innocent child. This can best be done, not by telling those who deny the existence of moral absolutes that abortion is morally wrong, but by demonstrating that they have been deceived into believing a false worldview, incorporating moral relativism, that cannot be defended intellectually.

If you are not a Christian but are a truth-seeker, one who longs to hold a worldview in harmony with truth and the evidence from all domains, then the resources available through RTM can help  lead you to truth. Readers will see that the real evidence from the four domains overwhelmingly points to the truth of Christianity.

Can the tide be turned?2024-01-23T19:54:34+00:00

The hour is late. The only hope for the nation is to restore truth to the domains of philosophy, theology, history, and natural science. Only then will truth seekers understand that Christianity is the only worldview consistent with the evidence and that moral absolutes do exist. Only then can citizens be convinced that man should govern his affairs according to Christian principles.
